We realize that some patients can be a little apprehensive when visiting a new doctor. Our commitment to providing the best health care in Charlottesville starts with making you feel welcome and at home in our office. You’ll find our office to be different from other medical offices, whether it’s the warm décor, the hot tea/coffee bar or some healthy snack, and of course the smiling faces! Here is what to expect on your first visit:

Completing the New Patient Forms will give us an excellent understanding of your past and current health situation. The form may seem lengthy at first but most of the questions are “Yes” and “No” answers, so it will go quickly. More importantly, the information you provide is crucial for determining the best course of care. Want to make it go even quicker? Once you’ve completed your paperwork, you will meet with Dr. Brycen and discuss your health concerns. We will find out if you’re a good candidate for chiropractic care!

Following the consultation, Dr. Brycen will perform a thorough chiropractic examination. The purpose of this examination is to locate the cause of your problem and anything else that is limiting your health, so we can develop a plan to help you. Your examination will consist of 5 different tests to uncover any “roadblocks” to achieving your best health:

1. Insight Subluxation Station: This cutting edge computerized assessment will measure the two main parts of your nerve system’s performance. It is completely non invasive and will provide us with a wealth of information on how to improve your body’s function.  The first part of this examination will involve reading the heat differences from one level of the spine to another, as well as one side of the spine to the other. Heat is a byproduct of circulation, which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. From this we can see how subluxation may be affecting these functions of your nervous system.  The second component is sEMG (surface electromyography) that measures surface electrical impulses along the spine. This helps measure the effect of subluxation on the motor nerve system and the effect subluxations may be having on your muscles. Don’t worry if it sounds confusing now. We’ll help you understand what it all means and the importance to your health!  
2. Range of Motion Assessment: We will look at how well your body moves and note any areas of restriction.  
3. Posture Assessment: How well does your body line up? Don’t worry.. We can help!  
4. Palpation Exam: Palpation essentially is checking your spine by hand. With this exam we can feel areas of your spine that may be involved with subluxation problems. Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone can also be examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxations.   

*We do not typically order X-rays or MRI unless there are certain findings during your examination that would warrant further study. If you happen to have any of these tests from previous providers, please feel free to bring them with you and we will review them.  

You will be scheduled for your Report of Findings within a few days of your initial visit. This visit is your most important visit and may take up to 45 minutes. It is at your Report of Findings that we will give you a care plan and go over any special instructions you will need to obtain the best and fastest possible results. It is also recommended to bring your spouse or significant other so they can understand how to best support you with your care as well as answer any questions that may come up. We have set aside specific times for these visits. Our staff will schedule your Report of Findings with you after your first visit.
